A Moment That Changed Everything
One Decision.
Two Lives Saved.
Countless Lives Touched.
In the winter of 2005, while on active duty and stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia, Luis Vindell received a phone call that changed everything.
His father, Fernando, was nearing total renal failure and urgently needed a new kidney. The wait for a kidney from a deceased donor can take five to seven years. A living donor can make it happen much faster.
Without hesitation, Luis said, “I’ll do it. Let’s test me to see if I’m a match for my dad.” He was.
In March of 2006, Luis saved his father’s life.
A Selfless Choice
In 2005, Luis Vindell didn’t hesitate when his father needed a kidney—he stepped forward and saved his life. It was a moment of love that changed their family forever.
An Unexpected Turn
Thirteen years later, Luis faced a health crisis of his own when his remaining kidney began to fail. As he waited for a transplant during the Covid-19 pandemic, he also endured the loss of his father.
Hope, Renewed
In the early hours of September 28, 2023, Luis received the call that a new kidney was on its way. Because of one donor’s selfless choice, Luis was given a second chance at life—and a reminder that hope endures.
In Moments of Fear,
People Choose Compassion.
And That Choice Saves Lives.
